Under the scope of the Partnership for Market Readiness (PMR) Project, capacity building activities concerning the use of market-based instruments for the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions in Turkey and studies on the suitability and applicability such instruments in our country are conducted. In this context, activities under the Component namely “Analytical Report 2: Assessment of Market Based Emission Reduction Policy Options for Turkey” started in June 2016.

As part of these activities, Steering Meeting for Assessment of Market Based Emission Reduction Policy Options for Turkey was held on June 2, 2016, with the participation of representatives from the public institutions and private sector.

Morning session of the meeting shed light to scope, objectives, country case studies, advantages and disadvantages of carbon tax, energy efficiency trading, renewable energy trading, scaled up crediting mechanism and result-based financing. In addition, the session was closed with a round of questions and answers on the above-mentioned marked based instruments.

The afternoon session included working groups where the participants were guided to prioritize marked based instruments which can be applied in the energy, industry, transportation, waste management and building sectors, thereby providing their feedbacks and recommendations which will shed light to future work on the subject matter.
